Why is storytelling so powerful? And how can we use it to our advantage?

According to David JP Phillips, storytelling is powerful because it can induce the release of four neurotransmitters: dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. Dopamine is associated with pleasure and motivation, oxytocin is associated with trust and bonding, serotonin is associated with happiness and well-being, and endorphins are associated with pain relief.

Phillips believes that we can use storytelling to our advantage by understanding how these neurotransmitters work and how to trigger their release. For example, he says that we can use stories to create a sense of suspense, which will release dopamine. Alternatively, we can use stories to create a sense of connection and intimacy, which will release oxytocin.
