According to the U.N, there are over 700 Mio. people worldwide who live in extreme poverty. Do those people need more or better education? Is minimum wages the solution, better healthcare, mitigating corruptive activities, or something else completely?

In his TED Talk, Rutger Bregman argues that poverty is not a lack of character. It's a lack of cash. He points to research showing that when people are given money with no strings attached, they spend it wisely on things like education and health care. He also cites studies that show that giving people a basic income can reduce crime and increase happiness. In one experiment in Kenya, for example, recipients of a basic income were found to be happier and healthier than those who didn't receive it. Bregman concludes by calling for a universal basic income as a way to end poverty and create more equal societies.
